The photo shoot took place on the recreation ground next to our old secondary school where this musical misadventure began. We hatched the plan to form a band in the second year of secondary school and started recording in the winter of the third year.
At that time punk rock was beginning to happen. It was 1977 and we were inspired by the energy and vitality along with the manner in which it spoke to an increasingly disenfranchised youth.
So our first band emerged in the corridors of secondary school. Our first audience was made up of our classmates as we played cassettes to them in break time of songs we had written. It was a kind of punk rock / art rock / avant-garde cocktail of absurdity, irony, pythonesque surrealism and schoolboy humour, underpinned by a rather erratic rhythm section, overstated fuzz guitar and off key vocals along with anything else we could potentially make a noise with.
This first band in it's various guises stayed together until 1981 which was good for a local band at that time. I think by our sheer longevity we became known locally.
Here we are some 45 years later, several bands and incarnations later, still making music together. We scrub up pretty well for the camera too for a couple of grumpy old blokes.
