- Nadia Boulanger
Nadia Boulanger was a French composer, conductor and teacher who taught many of the greatest 20th century composers. This is an inspiring quote. It crystallizes the heartbeat of life, faith, music and all that we do on this earth as humans.
Sometimes as an artist you can lose your way a bit and it takes someone else or something outside of your usual inspiration sources to ignite a spark again. This has happened so many times over in my life. It might be another piece of music, an interaction with someone, an artwork or something visual or on many occasions it's come from an idea out of a book I have read. The well is deep and somewhere out there in the ether is a great reservoir of creativity that we can tap into. It's rarely at will for me though I know some creatives who have incredible discipline. It's a trigger, a connection, something that ignites a spark. Something that awakens the world of choice, love or passion and sometimes glimpses or experiences of suffering where those things are lacking in my own life or in someone whose life I am privileged to observe or be a part of.
There is a saying in Buddhism which states "When the student is ready to learn, the teacher will appear".
