Somebody Famous -  Normal People -  Falling A Records 2022

Singer/guitarist Tim Jones and drummer Steve Robson (aka Steve Sekret) first met whilst performing in the band Punishment Of Luxury in the early 1980s. Tim had previously been a member of Neon, Brian Bond’s Punching Holes and Treatment Room. In 1987, Tim, Steve and original bass player Chris Oddy started to perform gigs all over the North East of England under the name of Somebody Famous. After the departure of Chris Oddy in 1988, Somebody Famous was joined by Irish fretless bass player Friz (aka Ken Linton) and the band continued to perform live extensively over the next 2 years. Alongside their many live concerts, the band recorded at various studios in the North East, culminating in an album’s worth of material that is available for the first time thanks to the efforts of Falling A Records. The band was occasionally augmented by ex Christians guitarist and songwriter Paul Campbell and he appears on three of the tracks on the album. All of the songs on "Normal People" are self penned by Tim Jones and few overdubs were performed in the studio as the intention was to capture the feel of the primarily three piece live rock band. Somebody Famous played a kind of post punk, New Wave, Progressive rock with many elements that make the band hard to define. We present here what could be described as the cream of the band’s catalogue and many live favourites for your listening pleasure. We like to think that this music was built to last and was never part of any musical fad.
