Greta Aurora is a poet and spoken word performer exploring the dark side of femininity and human nature. Her debut EP Dying Venus is a collection of experimental psychedelic tracks. The surreal and sensual poetry is complemented by eerily stirring melodies.

Greta Aurora – Dying Venus – Falling A Records 2021
The clock ticks…time passes…Ambient spoken word excursions with fine instrumental backing, very delicately and sympathetically performed. This is what comes across to me on my initial hearing of Greta Aurora’s new album on Falling A Records entitled “Dying Venus”. The production of the album by William Hayter is quite something. This is an adventure in sound and it’s wonderful to hear Barry Lamb from much loved, innovative progressive rock band Two Headed Emperor providing lovely melodic saxophone sprinkled here and there throughout our journey. Listening to “Dying Venus” is like watching a film only your ears are the film projector and your imagination creates the flickering images on the screen. Greta Aurora’s voice and poetry is enigmatic and her lyrical ideas are both intriguing and beguiling. On first hearing of this album, I didn’t know what to expect and was taken by surprise. Truly interesting playing from all of the other musicians involved, Carlos Ferrao on guitar, Charlie Cawood on acoustic bass, hammered dulcimer and zither, Brandon Meeks on double bass and the aforementioned William Hayter on drums, percussion and sonic manipulation. Greta asks us to question, to think about what she is saying and the images she is creating, her vision and if you get into it, you will be stolen away to some other land by responding with your imagination. I really like this album. It is unique in its way and I will not try to compare “Dying Venus” to anything else. This album stands on its own, a testament to the dying Venus. Falling A Records are to be commended for introducing challenging new music to our culture that comments on where we are now in these strange and uncertain times. In my opinion, this is yet another superb piece of work. Just one last question, who is going to burn Beethoven’s ninth symphony?
