Clearing the loft ... Big Project but made a start today.
Here's a bit of cassette culture history...
We distributed this along with some other cassettes from Apple Crumble Tapes.
Exact release date unknown. I think it was probably about 1982.
A flyer for the Ambitious Merchants compilation "Make Tea, Not War".
A rather chaotic but loveable band. Hopefully, I will find a cassette copy in my loft trawls, though I fear the free tea bag will be long gone.
The album brought together their first two (and I believe only) cassettes as one release:
"Eating Apple Crumble whilst listening to Rowche Rumble"
"Steve Ovett, Mushrooms and Bill & Ben"
The Ambitious Merchants were more conceptually mischievous than conventionally “musical”. Scratchy, raw, unpolished textures in the tradition of The Fall.
If my memory serves me well, one of the most successful releases from Apple Crumble Tapes was "Tony Benn Speaks from Bexleyheath" or something like that. I seem to recall that one of the mainstream music papers gave it a five star review. It was an actual brilliant speech by the said politician from days when politicians were true statesmen... even the bad ones.
There will be more ephemera, photo's and audio to come in due course.
