Notes
In the late 60s and early 70s musique concrète was accepted by composers and audiences alike; contemporary bands like Pink Floyd even included it in their fresh approach to popular music. As a teenager this was a natural way of listening and many records included sound effects and everyday noises in a total music experience: I spent hours listening to "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" on cassette! Then growing up I discovered the music of John Cage, Edgar Varèse and even knew Karlheinz Stockhausen in person! Listening to the French Masters Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Luc Ferrari everything was clear to me: the boundaries between sounds and noises were almost non-existent.
In 2020 I co-produced with ReR Megacorp "Intonarumori: Ieri ed Oggi" based on a faithful reconstruction of Luigi Russolo's machines; our piece in this new context could be a continuation of that concept. I clearly remember the news about Pink Floyd's idea in the music papers when I was in high school and I was excited about it. While working in London in 2008 Daniele actually knew Richard, David & Nick, so he was the obvious choice: I tried to work with him as a band, like they did at the time. Gerald is the famous character from "Bike" and our piece is dedicated to Syd. [Alessandro Monti]
