The early 80's were such a great time for new bands and new music in the UK. There was a sense of adventure and an opportunity for anyone to release their music and get it heard. A lot was due to punk blowing away the cobwebs and opening the door for different and more experimental ideas to get heard. The Young Marble Giants had a refreshingly minimalist approach and a distinctive sound.

Apparently I get a mention in this book. I feel suitably flattered.

Two rare tracks will soon be available to download for mailing list subscribers ahead of the release of the Frenzid Melon album "Clacton". The album is a collection that spans Frenzid Melon's diy cassette releases between 1977 - 1981. The two free tracks are "Earthlight" & "Seven Days DUB mix 1". Earthlight is lifted from their 1978 album "Graffiti Spastic Plastic". Both tracks have a special place in Frenzid Melon history as the original version of "Earthlight" was one of three tracks recorded at the inaugural Frenzid Melon recording session before the idea of releasing cassettes ever entered our heads. The original sessions were lost but we created an alternate version for our second cassette album. At the other end of the spectrum "Seven Days" is a previously unreleased track. It was the last track Frenzid Melon ever recorded just as we were beginning to morph into the insane picnic. It featured in the our early set. We have a few rehearsal recordings kicking around of the very first insane picnic sessions. It's interesting to note that "Seven Days", "New Image" and "Another Victim" formed very much the early part of our sound and "Seven Days" along with "New Image" had been considered strong contenders for the first single. Once the insane picnic emerged from our first studio session we had the complete "Four days in April" e.p. , a new direction emerged and all traces of Frenzid Melon were dropped. We have included the original "Seven days" on the "Clacton" album and we felt that this previously unheard dub mix would be a good freebie. These two exclusive downloads will be available very soon. Keep your eyes on the Frenzid Melon website for more news.
The long awaited Frenzid Melon compilation "Clacton" will be released on July 4. It will be available initially on CD and download formats. I listened to the master today and considering it's origins it is sounding sonically amazing.
There will be a trailer video out shortly and a free download of two tracks not on the album for our mailing list subscribers. There will also be a single from the album in due course and we are salvaging some other tracks mostly from our later period for future release.
How can something so stark, disturbing and haunting be also so compellingly beautiful. Such an ominous throb.
Tor giving the new Wilderness Poet bass player some direction on his parts for the album. We are committed to get this thing finished for October. With Tor at the helm anything can happen.
Andreea doing what she does best, bossing us around on the final day of the shoot for the video.
